  • I saw the New Palm Tree on the web, and asked advice from my business contacts in Mombasa. Fine, they said; we send new staff their when they arrive. And what a spot it is, in the business district, but a short walk from the Old Town, Fort Jesus, and any shopping you want to do.

    It is not for those whose idea of an hotel is the Hilton, or an anonymous beach resort that could be anywhere within 1000 miles of the equator. The New Palm Tree is definitely part of Mombasa in terms of technology and domestic hardware, such as showers. But the fan and the aircon worked, the shower - once explored - did its job. The great benefits are the opportunity to relax and feel at home, in the heart of the city. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff, at all levels, generous space in rooms, in the foyer, and on the first floor piazza. Street noise was minimal. Fellow-guests were drawn into the community feeling. It was a bit like staying with friends, but marginally more expensive.

  • I've stayed at the new palm tree for the last 15 years along with several other hotels in town, but always come back to NPT it has gone thru a recent upgrade with coffee shop and Internet cafe (miss the old bar) aircon rooms w/tv the water pressure showers is awesome, breakfast on the rooftop terrace is a touch.
